How Can We Be Holy and Sinful at the Same Time?
Bible Text: Romans 7:13-25 | Pastor: Bobby Brooks | Series: Un-Answered | Regret reminds us that all of us, every single one of us, are people still in process, there’s still room to grow and most hopefully of all, that God isn’t done with us yet.
Regret… None of us like feeling and yet, all of us at one point or another already have or one day will experience it. We know the right thing to do and we don’t do it. We know the wrong thing to do and we end up doing. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Christian or not, all of us know that terrible, nagging sense of regret. Many times, as followers of Jesus, this feeling of regret can weigh even heavier upon our hearts. We say things to ourselves like, “I’m supposed to be a follower of Jesus. Why in the world did I just do that?” Or, “I’m supposed to be a new creation in Christ…Why didn’t I speak up when I had the chance?” Today’s question centers around this experience common to all of us but brought to light in a more nuanced fashion for Christians: How can we be holy and sinful at the same time? If you’ve ever wrestled with this question, we hope tonight’s sermon will help you process your own experiences and make sense of this tension in light of the truth of scripture. Thanks for joining us tonight and as always, if there’s anything we can do to better be the church for you, please don’t hesitate to stop by the connect table and let us know. God bless and thanks for joining us!
